COREX TECHNOLOGIES CERTIFIED TO JOIN TRUSTe EUROPEAN UNION SAFE HARBOR PRIVACY SEAL PROGRAM

Developer of Award-Winning CardScan® Products and Contact Maintenance Solutions Becomes TRUSTe Member Underscoring Importance of Consumer Privacy Protections

Cambridge, Mass.— September 8, 2003: Corex Technologies Corporation, the leading developer of contact maintenance and business card scanning solutions, today announced that its Web site has been certified to display the TRUSTe European Union (EU) Privacy Seal, exemplifying its commitment to consumer privacy and security both domestically and internationally. TRUSTe, the leading privacy certification and seal program, awards its privacy seal only to companies that complete the TRUSTe certification process and agree to comply with ongoing TRUSTe oversight and consumer dispute resolution procedures.

Beginning immediately, Corex will prominently display the TRUSTe EU Privacy Seal, or "trustmark," on its Web site (www.corex.com). The TRUSTe EU seal offers a direct link to Corex's privacy statement, which provides Web site visitors with details of the company's privacy and security policies.

"Corex has been a trusted provider of business solutions for over 10 years, and we take our customers' privacy very seriously," said Jonathan Stern, CEO of Corex. "We're proud to display the TRUSTe EU seal as it is a reflection of Corex's longstanding commitment to being a responsible and conscientious company concerning matters of privacy and security. Furthermore, we plan to uphold the TRUSTe Privacy Seal by continually revisiting our internal processes to ensure Corex customers feel completely secure and empowered using our online services such as CardScan.net and AccuCard."

The TRUSTe Privacy Seal is a consumer branded symbol that signifies that a Web site has posted a privacy statement and, moreover, that its Web site information gathering and dissemination practices address the elements of notice, choice, access, security and redress outlined in the Federal Trade Commission's Fair Information Practices. By joining the TRUSTe EU Safe Harbor Privacy Seal program and fully complying with the license agreement, U.S. companies fulfill many of the requirements needed to self-certify to the Department of Commerce that they are safe harbor compliant and can continue to receive personal data from the EU without interruptions.

Specifically, TRUSTe's members agree to:

  • disclose their information gathering and dissemination practices;
  • give consumers choice to limit any secondary uses of their personal information through opt-in or opt-out;
  • provide consumers with access to their personal information to correct any inaccuracies; and
  • ensure that reasonable security mechanisms are being used to protect the data that is collected.
"By becoming a TRUSTe EU licensee, Corex gives its customers a clear signal that it is trustworthy and respects the privacy wishes of the people who visit its Web site," said Fran Maier, Executive Director and President of TRUSTe. "We are pleased to have Corex as part of our distinguished roster of participants in the TRUSTe EU Safe Harbor Privacy Seal program."

A cornerstone of the TRUSTe Privacy Seal and Certification Program is the ongoing monitoring and Watchdog Consumer Dispute Resolution mechanism. Through Web site audits and "seeding," TRUSTe regularly monitors its seal program participants to ensure the integrity of the privacy statement. In addition, TRUSTe provides consumers and organizations an effective method to build trust through the Watchdog Dispute Resolution mechanism, an easy-to-use service for consumers to resolve their privacy disputes.
